WHAT HAS HAPPENED AT THE
WAREHOUSE THEATRE

Croydon Council suddenly withdrew financial support
on the theatre's 35th birthday (May 2012).
(The Council supported the theatre for 30 years until 2008, during which time
an international reputation was established, and more support was agreed Oct 2011 to Dec 2012)

The financial withdrawal forced the managing company,
Warehouse Theatre Company Limited, into Administration.
Members of the former team set up Warehouse Phoenix Limited
in order to keep the Warehouse name alive, as its established reputation
can never be replaced in Croydon, London, the UK or Internationally.

The lease of the Warehouse Theatre building ran out on 27 November 12
and it was closed while the landlords carried out a survey to check
its structural safety - the survey has revealed structural problems
and the building's future is now in doubt and remains closed.
Warehouse Phoenix will carry on with as much
of the Warehouse Theatre programme as possible -
first, producing this year's International Playwriting Festival
